What is the purpose of the Summer Teachers Institute?

  • to build a partnership across charter, public and private school organizations

  • to provide professional development for elementary and middle school teachers in key areas — technology integration, 21st century skills and STEAM initiatives — for the 21st century learner

 

Why technology integration, 21st century skills and STEAM initiatives? Not just reading and math.

Very few professional development opportunities are available in these curricular areas specifically for elementary and middle school teachers. These practices are at the forefront of a successful 21st century learner. They can be infused with the teaching of reading and math, ultimately providing increased student engagement and higher order thinking.

 

Do I need to attend all three days?

Yes. The institute curriculum is specifically designed to provide a robust understanding of each theme: technology integration, 21st century skills and STEAM. Participants will walk away with an understanding of each theme and specific ways they can incorporate these essential educational initiatives in their classroom.

 

Who should attend?

Elementary and middle school teachers who want to leave inspired and ready to implement innovative teaching methods, who enjoy collaboration and desire a partnership among charter, public and private school teachers where we can share best practices.

 

What should I bring?

Yourself! You may want to bring your own device (laptop, iPad, etc.). All materials will be online — this is a technology-focused institute! However, we can provide a laptop for on campus use if necessary.

 

My school/district requires proof of attendance. Do you provide something official?

Yes. We will provide a certificate with professional development hours at the institute. These will be distributed on the last day of the institute. You must attend all three days to receive the certificate.

 

Will breakfast or lunch be provided?

Yes. On the registration form, you may provide any dietary restrictions, and we will do our best to accommodate. If we cannot meet your needs, you will be notified by email and an alternative plan will be discussed.

 

I want to attend, but have child care needs. What are my options?

While we cannot fill every need, we do have a summer program for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Click here (hyperlink for Under the Oaks page) for more information.



Cancellation Policy:

There are no refunds after May 1. In the unusual case where refunds are appropriate, there is a $25 processing fee.
