Technology
The School's technology goals are to assist all Oak Hill students with basic computer skills, research and information fluency, communication and collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving, responsible use of technology, and developing skills for lifelong learning. The technology curriculum is closely aligned with the academic
curriculum and follows the National Educational Technology Standards
for Students.
All classrooms and enrichment classes are equipped with computers for student use, but students visit the Technology Lab weekly to do projects related to the classroom curriculum and build technology skills. For example, third graders focus on keyboarding with twice-a-week visits for the first semester. During the second semester, they continue with weekly classes in which they reinforce keyboarding skills, as well as work on creative projects and research. Third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students also use mobile laptop carts in their classrooms to do research and curriculum projects.
As sixth graders attend classes in the Technology Lab, one of the
projects is to produce a school newspaper. They do interviews, take
digital photos, write the articles and learn how to use software for layout. They are using technology and communication skills which are
so important in our information age. The students also create a video newscast using a Flip video camera and all the students get to enjoy the creative
newscast as it is shown in the Dining Hall.
