3rd Grade at Oak Hill School
Third grade is a transition year for Oak Hill students. Instead of learning to read, the third graders read to learn. Students become more independent learners as they develop organizational skills through completing homework assignments and creating projects. Students learn to "study" material in subjects like science and social studies. Third graders learn the new skills of research writing and multiplication.
The study of Spanish takes on extra importance for third graders as they enjoy a special unit about Mexico. Two favorite units are an extensive study of the history of Nashville culminating in a walking tour of downtown Nashville and the study of space and the planets which concludes with a trip to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
Enrichments in art, Bible, computer, drama, foreign language, and music enhance and expand learning as they coordinate with the third grade curriculum. Daily recess and physical education classes keep the students healthy and physically fit.
