Third Grade TeacherOak Hill School seeks a creative and collaborative candidate for a self-contained classroom. This faculty member will join a nurturing, Christian community committed to the School’s mission and vision for building a diverse and inclusive environment where all children learn, grow, and thrive. The candidate will demonstrate a love of working with children, an engaging teaching style, the ability to interact well with parents and colleagues. As we prepare students to be lifelong learners, the same growth mindset is desired in our teachers. A strong knowledge base of literacy and math instruction is necessary with training in Readers Workshop, Writing Workshop, and Singapore Math desired. The ability to collaborate with a team of teachers to develop lesson plans and instructional materials is essential. 

Responsibilities

  • Work and plan collaboratively with other members of the grade-level team.
  • Create and implement engaging lessons with clear learning objectives.
  • Use a variety of methods to assess student learning and to inform instruction.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet individual needs of students.
  • Nurture the social, emotional, and spiritual growth of each student.
  • Communicate clearly, promptly, and professionally with students, parents, coworkers, and administrators.
  • Learn and implement best instructional practices by actively taking part in professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
  • Actively participate as a grade level representative of an academic or enrichment team.
  • Create a positive classroom environment where each child is cared for and supported.
  • Be a positive advocate of the school both internally and externally

Skills and Characteristics

  • Experience and professional development in Reading Workshop, Writing Workshop, phonics instruction, and Singapore Math is a plus.
  • A strong understanding of the developmental stages of beginning reading and writing.
  • A commitment to student-centered learning and a solid understanding of pedagogical approaches aimed at deep and differentiated learning.
  • An ability to work collaboratively with a positive spirit and sense of humor.
  • A growth mindset as demonstrated by a willingness to take feedback, be reflective, and adapt as needed.
  • A desire to be a lifelong learner as demonstrated by engagement in professional development.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • A strong understanding of child development (academically, socially, and emotionally) and a passion for working with the elementary-aged child.
  • An enthusiasm for relationship building with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • A commitment to support and be a part of building a diverse community that reflects God’s love as expressed in the Christian tradition.
  • A comfort in sharing one’s faith through leading morning devotion and group prayer with students

Educational Background and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education (required).
  • Master’s Degree in Education (preferred).

Drama Teacher - The school seeks a full time drama teacher to work with students in grades PreK - 6 beginning July 2021. This faculty member will join a nurturing, Christian community committed to the School’s mission and vision for building a diverse and inclusive environment where all children learn, grow, and thrive.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, CHARACTERISTICS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates a love of working with children.
  • Demonstrates an enthusiasm for relationship building with students and colleagues.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to student centered learning and a solid understanding of pedagogical approaches aimed at deep and differentiated learning.
  • Is knowledgeable about the skills for public speaking, dramatic and musical performances, and creative expression.
  • Has an ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to develop in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression.
  • Utilizes the repertoire of all types of performance styles that are appropriate for the age of the student.
  • Understands the process of dramatic expression is equal to the product.
  • Plans and executes a balanced drama program for students in preK - 6th grade. The position includes classroom teaching for these students. These innovative lessons should be designed to differentiate for variety.
  • Directs the musical performance for 5th and 6th grade students.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education (required).
  • Master’s Degree in Education or Performing Arts.
  • Prior teaching experiences with children ages 5 - 12 (preferred).
  • Ideal candidates are creative individuals who are not only experienced actors, but know the lighting, costuming, music and production requirements for putting on a play and are able to teach in the drama classroom.

4th Grade Teacher - Oak Hill School seeks a creative and collaborative teacher for fourth grade.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific responsibilities of the position include:

  • Serve as a homeroom teacher
  • Lead morning meeting sessions to build on social and emotional learning
  • Supervise and provide learning support for students
  • Help students during study hall
  • Collaborate on grade-level and subject-matter teams
  • Participate in class outings and overnights
  • Design and teach innovative lessons that differentiate for a variety of  learning styles.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications include at least a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, science, or a closely related field as well as elementary or middle-school teaching experience. Experience in curriculum development and revision are also required. Experience in teaching Singapore Math is also preferred.

5th Grade Math Teacher and Advisor - The School seeks a creative and collaborative teacher for fifth-grade math and the fifth-grade advising team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific responsibilities of the position include:

  • Teaching mathematics
  • Serve as advisor to a small cluster of fifth-grade students
  • Supervise and provide learning support for advisees
  • Help students during study hall
  • Collaborate on grade-level and subject-matter teams
  • Participate in class outings and overnights
  • Design and teach innovative lessons that differentiate for a variety of  learning styles.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications include at least a bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a closely related field as well as elementary or middle-school teaching experience. Experience in curriculum development and revision are also required. Experience in teaching Singapore Math is also preferred.

Director of Diversity and Inclusion - The school seeks a Director of Diversity and Inclusion to assume the role in July 2021. The Director will work with the administration, faculty, and students to ensure that diversity, equity, and inclusion are integrated throughout every aspect of the community and curriculum. In alignment with the school’s mission, the Director will plan and execute on new and existing organizational-wide DEI initiatives, professional development sessions, policies, and systems to foster inclusivity, diversity, and equity across campus. As a member of the administrative team, the Director must be passionate about DEI work and be a strategic leader who will work to strengthen and build holistic DEI strategy for Oak Hill.

After-School Care Providers - Explorations, the after-school program at Oak Hill School, seeks responsible individuals to serve as after-school care providers, working with children, ages 4-12, in a structured and fun environment. The positions offer an opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience working with elementary-aged children. A background in education is preferred, but not required.

Substitute Teacher - We are currently seeking talented candidates to substitute teach in all grades and classes. A college degree is required. Experience working with children or education is preferred. Please complete the online application for consideration.

Substitute Bus Driver - We are currently seeking substitute bus drivers for morning and afternoon routes and for field trips.
