Communications Manager

Oak Hill School, a Prek-6, Christian independent located in Nashville, is seeking a full-time communication manager starting July 1, 2023. Onboarding could be earlier depending on the candidate's timeline.

The Communication Manager is part of a six-person collaborative Office of Advancement (admissions, communications and development) and will be responsible for overseeing strategic communications and marketing efforts in support of Oak Hill School.

The Communication Manager reports to the Director of Advancement and assists with the planning and execution of communication strategies for both internal and external communications. The manager will also assist with special events throughout the year related to general school and advancement office functions. This role provides vital support to all areas of the Office of Advancement. The ideal candidate has excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both written and verbal, understands the “customer service” aspects of working within an independent school. The associate should have a keen attention to detail, a sense of humor and an adaptable approach.The communication manager position is full-time, Monday-Friday, and requires occasional evening and weekend participation in department events and functions, both in-person and virtual.

Responsibilities:

Communications Management
  • Develops and implements marketing and communication strategies that enhance the reputation of Oak Hill to all constituencies by engaging parents, alumni, donors, volunteers and other community members.

  • Oversees the creation and implementation of annual communications calendar

  • Acts as the primary brand manager, ensuring creative and unifying themes, across all areas, from physical plant to printed materials

  • Develops and implements marketing and communication strategies that attract and inform future Oak Hill families

  • Design, write and coordinate day-to-day communications and announcements

  • Serves as media relations coordinator

  • Serve as point-of-contact for third-party vendors for communications needs (photography, video production and inbound marketing)

  • Collaborates with admissions, development, administrators, faculty and Parent Association committee chairs on their communications strategies, editing and proofreading as necessary

  • Provides creative direction for all ad content

  • Manages and prioritizes requests submitted to communications office

  • Manage school emergency/closing information/distribution

  • Ensures that website content is current and optimized for SEO and SEM

  • Implements special projects as needed by the Head, Division Heads, and Board of
    Trustees, including: preparing correspondence, providing background information and
    remarks for special events, and participating on task forces and committees as requested

  • School event and “life of the school” photography as needed

  • Attends and assists with special events

Content Management
  • Writes and assists with weekly school emails, push-notifications and other communications

  • Manage school’s social media accounts (OHS and PA Instagram and OHS Facebook)

  • Manages production of school magazine, Spreading Branches, and yearbook, Oak Log. Creates content and oversees additional writers.

Team Collaboration
  • Scheduling and office calendar maintenance

  • Attends advancement and other school events and is a visible and engaged community member

  • Performs various other responsibilities as assigned by the director of advancement or Head of School support of advancement or other school programs (capital campaign, school-wide events)

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Adobe design suite (InDesign, Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator) and related programs, and various social media platforms

  • Competency with Zoom or equivalent platform and experience setting up and hosting online meetings

 

Desired Qualifications
  • 5-7 years prior communications experience

  • Familiarity with Veracross or Blackbaud data management platform
