Interim Second Grade Teacher

OHS seeks a collaborative candidate to fill a second grade teaching position in a self-contained classroom from December 13 - April 11. This person will join a nurturing, Christian community committed to the School’s mission and vision for building a diverse and inclusive environment where all children learn, grow, and thrive. The candidate will demonstrate a love of working with children, an engaging teaching style, and the ability to interact well with parents and colleagues. A strong knowledge base of literacy and math instruction is necessary with training in Readers Workshop, Writing Workshop, and Singapore Math desired. The ability to collaborate with a team of teachers to develop lesson plans and instructional materials is essential. 


  • Work and plan collaboratively with other members of the grade-level team
  • Follow the curriculum to create and implement engaging lessons with clear learning objectives
  • Use a variety of methods to assess student learning and to inform instruction
  • Nurture the social, emotional, and spiritual growth of each student
  • Communicate clearly, promptly, and  professionally  with students, parents, coworkers, and administrators
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
  • Create a positive classroom environment where each child is cared for and supported 
  • Be a positive advocate of the school both internally and externally

  • A strong understanding of child development (academically, socially, and emotionally) and a passion for working with the elementary-aged child
