Arrival and Dismissal

We know the arrival and dismissal processes can be a bit confusing. A brief description is below, as well as detailed maps for specific lane instructions. We will also go over the procedures and you will have a chance to ask questions at upcoming new parent meetings.

Arrival Procedures:

Students going to Before School Care may be dropped off at the doors by the gym on North Porch (the entrance of the school near the dining hall). Before care opens at 7:10 a.m., and students will be supervised in the gym until classrooms open at 7:40 a.m.

PreK students may be dropped off in the circular drive at South Porch (the main entrance to the school by the flagpole), from 7:40 a.m. - 8 a.m. Teachers will be present to assist.

All other students may be dropped off at West Porch (the entrance on the side of the school behind the library) or North Porch, from 7:40 a.m. - 8 a.m.

Dismissal Procedures:

PreK students are dismissed at 2:30 p.m. at South Porch. Teachers will walk with students to their cars, where you will be handed an iPad to sign out your child.

Kindergarten students are dismissed at 2:45 p.m. at North Porch, where two lines will form around the drive.

All other students are dismissed at 3 p.m. at both North and South Porches.

Athletics

Students may begin participating in Oak Hill School athletics as early as Kindergarten by joining the cross country team or Dribble Cubs. Cross country competes in the fall and Dribble Cubs takes place in the winter season. Other OHS sports teams include football, volleyball, soccer, cheerleading, basketball, track and field, and lacrosse, which are open to Upper School students.

Sign-ups for cross country and other fall sports participation for the new school year will take place in the late spring and summer months and is coordinated by OHS athletic director Patrice Elder. You will receive information about how to register in the school’s summer communication.

If you have specific questions about athletics participation, please reach out to Patrice Elder, OHS athletic director, elderp@oakhillschool.org.

Bus Transportation

If you signed up for bus transportation:

Route Assignment

You will be notified by email of your route assignment/bus line (Oak, Acorn or Logger Line) this summer.

Bus Pass

All students who are signed up for bus transportation will be issued a bus pass to be attached to your child’s school bag. The bus pass will be scanned every time your child boards and then exits the bus on morning and afternoon routes. You will be able to track, via an app, your child’s en route progress each day.

Bus Orientation Meeting

A bus orientation meeting will be held for new bus riders and families prior to the start of school in August.

Students who attend Explorations will have the opportunity to complete homework, participate in structured activities and enjoy much needed downtime at the end of the academic school day.

Pricing is structured to accommodate whether you require after-school care on a regular basis or drop-in care periodically. Explorations maintains extended hours, offering half-day care on many early dismissal school days. Reservations are required to attend Explorations on these days. Parent Portal

Upon enrollment, each parent will be provided a username and password to access the “future parent portal.” The portal provides links to various parent and student resources. Volunteer opportunities are organized using Sign Up Genius. At the beginning of the school year, you will receive a set of Sign Up Genius forms with volunteer opportunities that are specific to your child’s class and grade—everything from class parties and field trips to school-wide special events and programs. Sign up for as much or as little as you like … we look forward to your participation in our vibrant school community!
