Week of February 12, 2017
NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Parent-teacher conferences are this week, Tuesday, February 14, and Wednesday, February 15. Teacher professional development is scheduled for Thursday, February 16. Students will be dismissed early on these three days. Dismissal for PreK and Kindergarten only students is at 10:45 a.m. All other students will be dismissed at 11 a.m. Sixth-grade students are required to attend the parent-teacher conference with their parents.
- As a reminder, children are not permitted to be left unattended on the school campus during parent-teacher conferences. If you require care during your scheduled conference, please take your child to Explorations. You will be billed for the applicable Explorations fee. Additionally, any child left unattended will be taken to Explorations and the fee for Explorations will be applied. Children sitting outside the classroom door will be considered unattended.
- Hearts of Service Day is tomorrow, February 13. Students will participate, on and off campus, in service projects related to their grade-level service theme. Fifth-grade students should wear their field trip shirts with uniform bottoms, and fourth-grade students should wear their Tennessee t-shirts. All other students should wear their Round-Up t-shirts with uniform bottoms for Hearts of Service Day.
- The OHS Professional Moms group will meet tomorrow, February 13, at the home of J’Anne Cox; 405 W. Tyne Drive, Nashville, 37205. The PMs will tag and price donated uniforms and clothes for the OHS Consignment Sale. Any OHS mom is welcome to attend! The PM meetings are a great opportunity to have fun while helping our school community.
- We are excited to announce that Devorah Heitner, Ph.D, founder of Raising Digital Natives and author of Screenwise: Helping Kids Thrive and Survive in Their Digital World, will join us on Monday, March 6, at 6 p.m., for the next installment of the Common Trust Speaker Series. We understand that raising kids in the Digital Age is a topic of interest for many, and Dr. Heitner’s talk is an opportunity to hear a realistic yet optimistic perspective on helping kids navigate reputation, friendships and exclusion in the age of texting and social media. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this informative presentation. Free child care will be provided. To register, click HERE.
- As a follow-up to our Common Trust Speaker Series, we are hosting two lunch and learn sessions, the first on Wednesday, March 8, and the second on Tuesday, March 14, to continue the discussion of navigating parenting in the Digital Age. Dr. Dave Verhaagen of Southeast Psych will lead a two-part series, A Parent’s Guide to Technology and Social Media, to take a deeper dive into this important topic. Both sessions will be held from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. A complimentary light lunch will be served. Please RSVP to Kate Sullivan, sullivank@oakhillschool.org, if you plan to attend.
