Weekly Ticker - February 7, 2016

Week of February 7, 2016

  • Parent-Teacher Conferences are this week, Tuesday, February 9, and Wednesday, February 10. Teacher professional development is scheduled for Thursday, February 11. Students will be dismissed early on these three days. Dismissal for PreK and Kindergarten only students is at 10:45 a.m. All other students will be dismissed at 11 a.m. Sixth-grade students are required to attend the Parent-Teacher Conference with their parents.

  • Registration is still available for Explorations early dismissal care on February 9-11, to accommodate the half-day attendance days for Parent-Teacher Conferences and teacher professional development. Explorations will be open on these days from 10:45 a.m. - 6 p.m. Lunch will be provided. The price to attend is $25 until 3 p.m., and $35 until 6 p.m., each day. A reservation must be made no later than TODAY to receive this rate. Otherwise, the price is an additional $10 per day. Please note, all registration and applicable charges are final. No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations or schedule changes. To register, please click HERE.

  • As a reminder, children are not permitted to be left unattended on the school campus during Parent-Teacher Conferences. If you require care during your scheduled conference, please take your child to Explorations. You will be billed for the applicable Explorations fee. Additionally, any child left unattended will be taken to Explorations and the fee for Explorations care will be applied. Children sitting outside the classroom door will be considered unattended.

  • Hearts of Service Day is tomorrow, February 8. Students will participate, on and off campus, in service projects related to their grade-level service theme. Fifth-grade students should wear their field trip shirts with uniform bottoms. All other students should wear their gray Round Up t-shirts with uniform bottoms for Hearts of Service Day.

  • Duds Day or extra recess? Be sure to watch the Super Bowl and find out. If the Panthers win the Super Bowl, students will celebrate with a Duds Day on Tuesday, February 9. And if the Broncos win, all students will receive an extra 15 minutes at recess.

  • This is the last week to donate clothes and gently used OHS uniforms to the 1961 Consignment Number to be sold at the OHS Spring/Summer Consignment Sale. Collection bins will be located in the Rotunda through Friday, February 12. One hundred percent of the proceeds from these items will go to the OHS Parents Association.

  • Want to help tag the 1961 Consignment Number items? The OHS Professional Moms will be hanging and tagging the items on Thursday, February 18, at the home of Ansley Tolleson. Drop in any time after 5 p.m. and stay as long as you are able. Dress comfortably and bring extra wire hangers and safety pins if you have any. Food and drink will be provided. All OHS moms are welcome to attend!

  • Order forms and payment for signed copies of Chris Grabenstein’s books, including The Island of Dr. Libris and Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library, are due this Tuesday, February 9.  This New York Times best-selling author will speak to students in third through sixth grade on Tuesday, February 16. Please click HERE for book order form and return with payment to the library.

  • We are collecting Box Tops this week! Please turn in your Box Tops, beginning tomorrow, through Friday, February 12. Look for collection bins located at the intersection of B wing and the main hallway. This is the last Box Top collection of the school year.

  • Team sign-ups for OHS spring sports are now underway. Boys lacrosse (fifth and sixth grade), girls lacrosse (fifth and sixth grade), and track and field (fourth through sixth grade) will begin very soon. Click HERE and complete the electronic form no later than Monday, February 15, to be added to the team email list and receive further team emails.

  • The next meeting of our Dads’ Bible study with Adam DeVries is this Tuesday, February 9, 7:30 a.m. - 8 a.m., in the OHS Boardroom. Any OHS father is welcome to attend. Hope to see you there!

  • Come learn, play and create this summer at Under the Oaks. Click HERE to sign up your child to spend the summer with his or her favorite OHS teachers!

  • Moms in Prayer is excited to invite any OHS mom to a special morning, featuring renowned counseling practitioner Kaka Ray. Kaka will share her thoughts and experiences on topics that affect our families today—marriage, parenting and day-to-day life. She brings years of expertise on conflict resolution, courage and wholehearted living, which we all strive to do. This is one not to be missed! Join us on Wednesday, February 17, at 8:30 a.m., in Courtenay Lounge. Please enter through the main entrance of Oak Hill School and you will be directed from there.

  • By now you should have received an email asking for information about those individuals you want invited to Grandparents and Special Friends Day, scheduled on Friday, April 8. This form is very important, as this is the only list we use to mail invitations. All families must complete a form in order for grandparents to receive an invitation. A new form must be filled out each year. Click HERE to complete the form ASAP, as we will mail invitations the beginning of March.
