Week of January 10, 2016
NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
- There’s still time to sign up for the next session of Explorations mini-classes, which will begin the week of January 19. We are excited to continue offering Guitar and Piano, Vocal Lessons, Taekwon-Do, Drawing Classes, Clay Creations and Tennis. Due to popular demand, we are adding a second session of Super Skills soccer class. Click HERE for class descriptions and to register.
- Re-enrollment for first through sixth grades will begin Friday, January 22, and end on Friday, January 29. This process will be online, as in previous years. Families will receive an email which will guide you through the process of completing the tuition agreements and related forms. Please be aware that an advanced deposit of $1000 per student is required to hold your child’s spot for the 2016-17 academic year. All payments must be submitted via online payment.
- Please continue clipping and saving Box Tops and plan to turn in next month. Be sure to check the expiration date, as expired Box Tops may not be redeemed. Stayed tuned for the specific dates the Box Tops will be collected.
- In December, students participated in a worldwide educational technology initiative called The Hour of Code. Not surprisingly, the feedback from this project has been positive and has motivated us to offer more computer programming opportunities. For the second year, we will offer Coding Club, a before-school class held in the Innovation Lab from 7:10 a.m. -7:40 a.m. Mrs. Sloan and a small group of fifth- and sixth-grade coders will guide beginners through a computer programming course provided by Code.org. Students who participated in last year’s Coding Club will take a more advanced course. By introducing students to these basic programming skills, our hope is to equip them with a skill set that will prove to be foundational for other academic learning. To register for these free sessions, click HERE if your child is in Kindergarten through second grade, and click HERE if your child is in third through sixth grade. Classes will be scheduled once interest and grade-level class sizes are determined. Mrs. Sloan will be in touch with parents after the registration process is complete. The deadline to register is Wednesday, January 20.
- A slight change was recently made to our phone system, resulting in a small number of voicemail messages not being delivered to the intended recipient. If you recently left a phone message for someone at OHS and the message was not returned, we apologize for the delay in responding to you. Please know that the issue has been corrected, and all voicemail messages are, once again, being properly delivered.
