Weekly Ticker - January 28, 2018

Week of January 28, 2018

  • Registration is now open for Oak Hill School’s summer program Under the Oaks! Classes fill quickly, so make your summer camp plans now while selection remains. Click HERE to view the online brochure and register. We hope that your child will join us this summer to play, learn and create.

  • Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, February 13, and Wednesday, February 14. Teacher professional development is scheduled for Thursday, February 15. Students will be dismissed early on these three days. Dismissal for PreK and Kindergarten ONLY students is at 10:45 a.m. All other students will be dismissed at 11 a.m. Sixth-grade students are required to attend the Parent-Teacher Conference with their parents.

  • Half-day Explorations care will be available February 13-15, 10:45 a.m. - 6 p.m., to accommodate the early dismissal days for Parent-Teacher Conferences and teacher professional development. The cost to attend is $25 until 4 p.m., and $35 until 6 p.m., each day. Lunch will be provided. Registration is required for your child to attend. The deadline to register is Friday, February 9. Because of state guidelines regarding ratio requirements, we are no longer able to accept drop-ins. All reservations are final, and no refunds will be given for canceled or altered reservations. To reserve a spot for your child to attend half-day Explorations, please click HERE.

  • This Thursday, February 1, students may wear something that will show what they think the groundhog will do on Groundhog Day (February 2). If he or she thinks the groundhog will see his shadow and we will experience more winter, they can wear something wintry. If he or she thinks the groundhog will predict an early spring, they can wear some fun, warm weather clothes. No swimsuits! Regardless of what they wear, students need to have tennis shoes on hand for recess and PE classes. Students will celebrate the prediction on February 2 in the Dining Hall with hot and cold treats.

  • The meet and greet sessions with Hart Roper are quickly approaching! Hart will be on campus to meet with parents on Thursday, February 8, 7:30 a.m. - 9 a.m., and 4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. We are excited for you to meet Hart and hope you will drop in to make an introduction.

  • Newbery Award-winning author Matt de la Peña and illustrator of New York Times bestseller Otis will visit with students in first through fifth grade on Thursday, February 1, to share their newest picture book, Love. To purchase a copy of Love or any of Matt’s or Loren’s books to be signed during their time in Nashville, click HERE to download an order form. The last day to return the completed form, along with payment, to your child’s teacher is tomorrow, January 29.

  • The Daddy/Daughter Breakfast is coming up on Friday, February 9, 7 a.m. - 7:45 a.m., in the Enrichment Center. Join us for Dunkin’ Donuts, oatmeal, sausage and coffee, as you start the day off right with your daughter. Early morning care will be open at 7 a.m., to accommodate the sons of dads attending the breakfast with their daughters.

  • In memory of Patricia Shockley, a former OHS staff member who loved to knit and taught so many students to do the same, we will collect new or gently used knitted or fleece hats, gloves and scarves for men, women and children in need for the P.S. You Are Loved campaign. The knitted and fleece winter items will be collected in the Rotunda through Friday, February 9. With each item, students will include a special ribbon that says, “P.S. You Are Loved.” These items will be donated to local homeless individuals.

  • Consignor and volunteer spots are available for the OHS Spring/Summer Consignment Sale, scheduled for February 21-24. Click HERE for more information and to sign up. Tagging instructions, acceptable items, item limits and all dates and times are provided on the website. Please note, OHS uniforms are now accepted at the sale. A separate used uniform sale will not be held. Used uniforms will be available for purchase on Friday, February 23, during the consignment sale.

  • No time to consign? You can still help OHS by donating gently used children’s spring and summer clothing, OHS school uniforms, shoes, toys and children’s books in GOOD condition to be tagged and sold by volunteers with 100 percent of the proceeds going to OHS. Please drop your donations in the collection bins in the Rotunda, beginning tomorrow, January 29, through Friday, February 9.

The January virtue is PATIENCE. Our verse this week is from Galatians 5:22, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such there is no law.”
