NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Are we in for a long winter? This Wednesday, February 1, all students will make their prediction whether or not Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow on Groundhog Day (February 2) by how they dress. If your child thinks Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow and return to the ground for more winter, your child may wear warm, snuggly winter attire to school on February 1. If your child predicts the groundhog will not see his shadow, spring clothing items may be worn on this day. We will collect and calculate the data of our prediction. On Groundhog Day, we will compare our prediction with Phil’s behavior and celebrate in the Dining Hall with hot and cold treats.
- Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, February 14, and Wednesday, February 15. Teacher professional development is scheduled for Thursday, February 16. Students will be dismissed early on these three days. Dismissal for PreK and Kindergarten ONLY students is at 10:45 a.m. All other students will be dismissed at 11 a.m. Sixth-grade students are required to attend the Parent-Teacher Conference with their parents.
- Registration is now open for Explorations early dismissal care on February14-16, to accommodate the half-day attendance days for Parent-Teacher Conferences and teacher professional development. Explorations will be open on these days from 10:45 a.m. - 6 p.m. Lunch will be provided. The price to attend is $25 until 3 p.m., and $35 until 6 p.m., each day. A reservation must be made by Friday, February 10, to receive this rate. Otherwise, the price is an additional $10 per day. Please note, all registration and applicable charges are final. No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations or schedule changes. To register, please click HERE.
- Consignor spots are still available for the OHS Spring/Summer OHS Consignment Sale. Click HERE to sign up. No time to consign? You can still help OHS by donating gently used children’s spring and summer clothing, OHS school uniforms, shoes, toys and children’s books in good condition to be tagged and sold by volunteers with 100% of the proceeds going to OHS! Donations bins will be in the Rotunda through Monday, February 6.
- The Daddy/Daughter Breakfast is coming up on Friday, February 10, 7 a.m. - 7:45 a.m., in the Enrichment Center. Join us for Dunkin’ Donuts, oatmeal, sausage and coffee, as you start the day off right with your daughter. Early morning care will be open at 7 a.m., to accommodate the sons of dads attending the breakfast with their daughters.
- Don’t forget, registration is now open for Oak Hill School’s summer program Under the Oaks! Classes fill quickly, so make your summer camp plans now while selection remains. Click HERE to view the online brochure and register. We hope that your child will join us this summer, as we play, learn and create.
- The P.S. You Are Loved campaign is winding down. The last day to donate knitted winter items is Tuesday, February 7. Look for a collection table in the Rotunda. With each item, the students will include a special ribbon that says, “P.S. You Are Loved.” These items will be donated to local homeless individuals on Hearts of Service Day.
- It’s almost BoxTops for Education collection time! Did you know that OHS can earn $1,000 or more by collecting BoxTops found on products that are used every day, such as cereal, trash bags, butter, snacks and more? So, don’t recycle those boxes until you clip the BoxTop. Collection will begin February 7. For a complete list of products where BoxTops can be found, please click HERE. If you have questions, please contact Catherine Beemer, cathbeemer@comcast.net.
- Mark your calendars! The Oak Hill School Online Auction is coming! Beginning Tuesday, April 4, the Online Auction spans two weeks and is an opportunity for parents, faculty and friends of Oak Hill to enjoy bidding on fabulous auction items to raise money for our school. The Auction’s goal is to provide funding for enrichment materials, continuing education for our teachers and staff and other educational activities not covered by tuition alone. If you’re interested in donating, we are looking for event tickets, vacation homes or unique experiences. We are open to any donations! Please contact the online auction co-chairs, Nancy Kennedy, nancywestkennedy@yahoo.com, and Liz Smith, liz.smith@vanderbilt.edu, with any questions.
