NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Spring break is nearly here! Students will be dismissed for spring break at the end of the school day on Thursday, March 16. School will resume on Monday, March 27. We hope you and your family have a safe and enjoyable break.
- Our final lunch and learn session about navigating parenting in the Digital Age is THIS Tuesday, March 14, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Dr. Dave Verhaagen of Southeast Psych will lead the second session of this two-part series, A Parent’s Guide to Technology and Social Media. Although this session will build on the information that was presented last week, it is not necessary to have attended the first session to come to the session this week. A complimentary light lunch will be served. Please RSVP to Kate Sullivan, sullivank@oakhillschool.org, if you plan to attend.
- Dads, the Father/Son Breakfast will be held on Friday, March 31, at 7 a.m., the week of our return from spring break. All PreK through sixth-grade boys and their dads are invited to join us in the Enrichment Center, starting at 7 a.m., for donuts and coffee. Be on the lookout for an email invitation to arrive soon.
- The CTK Competition is this Wednesday, March 15, at 6 p.m., at Brentwood Academy! In partnership with Flik, a team of sixth graders are set to compete in an exciting cooking competition between students from OHS and teams from Brentwood Academy, CPA and Harding Academy. The competition is modeled after the Food Network’s hit TV show Cutthroat Kitchen. The winning school will be award a cash prize, which will be donated to Nashville’s Second Harvest Food Bank. We invite you to attend the competition and support our OHS Culinary Kiddos!
- Calling all fifth- and sixth-grade coders! Ms. Messina will offer a Coding Club for fifth and sixth graders who are looking to add more computer programming and coding time into their schedule. The Coding Club will meet on March 30, April 20 and May 11, from 7:10 a.m. - 7:50 a.m. There is no charge to attend. Click HERE to sign up to attend no later than Tuesday, March 28. Spots are limited to the first 20 students to sign up.
- Last call for grandparent addresses! Invitations to Grandparents and Special Friends Day will be sent this week. If you have not filled out the form to provide current mailing addresses for your family’s grandparents and special friends, please click HERE to do so now. This form not only allows us to send invitations, but it also helps teachers know who will be visiting their classrooms.
- Author Raymond Arroyo will visit students in third through sixth grade on Tuesday, March 28, to share his newest adventure starring Will Wilder, The Lost Staff of Wonders. To purchase a copy of this book or the first Will Wilder adventure, The Relic of Perilous Falls, to be signed by the author before his visit, click HERE to print an order form. Please return the completed order form, along with payment, to your child’s teacher by Thursday, March 16.
- The OHS Online Auction is almost here. We are still accepting donations. Please contact Nancy Kennedy, nancywestkennedy@yahoo.com, or Liz Smith, liz.smith@vanderbilt.edu, for details. Don’t miss out on bidding for fabulous items. Week One categories include Experiences, Kids’ Parties, Children’s Items, Camps and Lessons, Restaurants, Sporting Events and many priceless OHS offerings. Week One opens on Tuesday, April 4, at 8 a.m., and closes on Sunday, April 9, at 8 p.m. Week Two categories include Travel, Beauty, Art and Photography, Fitness and Health, Fashion and Home Necessities. Week Two opens on Tuesday, April 11, at 8 a.m., and closes on Sunday, April 16, at 8 p.m. You must be registered to bid! To register, click HERE.
- Camps are continuing to fill for our Under the Oaks Summer Program. Click HERE to register while space is still available. Be sure to follow Under the Oaks on Facebook and Twitter for updates, announcements and more information.
- The theme for the 2017 Lenten Services is “Jesus: Human and Hero.” Please join us in the Enrichment Center for our first service on Wednesday, March 29, at 8 a.m. The fifth grade Forrest cohort will lead us through the life of Christ and teach us some important aspects about trust in God. Mary Cady Bolin, Lower School Bible teacher, will also share a devotional message to help inspire students to grow deeper in their faith journeys. All students are expected to wear their dress uniform and parents are welcome to attend.
- Save the Date! The 2017 Spring Fling will be held on Friday, April 21, at Famous Saloon on 2nd Avenue. Come and hang with other Oak Hill parents at this brand new venue in the heart of downtown. Be on the lookout for an Evite to arrive in your inbox soon.
