Week of March 13, 2016
NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
- It’s hard to believe that Spring Break is almost here! Students will be dismissed for Spring Break at the end of the school day on Thursday, March 17. School will resume on Tuesday, March 29. We hope you and your family have a safe and enjoyable break.
- Mark your calendars and plan to attend the Common Trust Speaker Series event on Monday, April 4, from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., featuring Dr. Daniel Goleman, world-renowned psychologist and author of The New York Times bestseller, Emotional Intelligence. Goleman has transformed the way the world educates children and relates to family and friends. During his presentation, Goleman will speak about the elements of emotional intelligence and why it is every bit as important to a child’s learning and development as IQ. This is one event that you will not want to miss!
- Did you hear that we’re offering free childcare for the Common Trust Speaker Series with Dr. Daniel Goleman on Monday, April 4? We want to provide every opportunity for you to attend. Explorations will be open for the event, from 5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. A reservation is required. Please click HERE for additional details and to sign-up.
- Join us for a Lunch & Learn seminar with Nan Russell, along with OHS guidance counselor Sarah Mathiesen and third-grade teacher Elizabeth Derck, on Wednesday, March 30, from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., in preparation for the Common Trust Speaker Series event on April 4. Nan will take a deeper dive into Goleman’s book, Emotional Intelligence, specifically discussing how emotional intelligence could possibly be more important than IQ. The second session will be held on Thursday, April 7, also from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., as a follow-up to Goleman’s presentation. A complimentary light lunch will be served at both sessions. Please RSVP to Kate Sullivan, sullivank@oakhillschool.org, if you plan to attend.
- Our final Lenten Worship is this Wednesday, March 16, at 8 a.m., in the FPC Sanctuary. The final Lent service will be March 16. Please remember that your child should wear his or her dress uniform for these special days.
- Dads, the Father/Son Breakfast will be held Friday, April 1, at 7 a.m., the week of our return from Spring Break. All PreK through sixth-grade boys and their dads are invited to join us in the Enrichment Center, starting at 7 a.m., for donuts and coffee. Be on the lookout for an email invitation to arrive soon.
- Registration for the final session of Explorations mini-classes is now open. We are delighted to continue offering Taekwon-Do, Dance/Cardio, Chess Club, Super Skills and private guitar, piano and vocal instruction. We are also excited about our newest offering, private basketball instruction for students in fourth through sixth grade. Please note, only one Super Skills class is available this session. All students registered for a mini-class may also attend Explorations on their assigned class dates at no additional charge. For specific details about each class and the link to register, please click HERE.
- We are still seeking participants for the fifth annual Common Trust Cup Golf Tournament on April 25, 2016, at the Golf Club of Tennessee. All OHS parents, grandparents, alumni and friends are invited to play, either through forming a team or playing as an individual. All funds raised go directly to the Common Trust Speaker Series, which has brought in premier speakers on education and child rearing to Oak Hill School during the last several years. For more information, please contact John Boyer at BoyerJ@oakhillschool.org
- SAVE THE DATE: The Oak Hill Spring Fling, our end-of-the-year parent celebration, will be held on Friday, April 15, at aVenue, located downtown. Please mark your calendars now for what will be a great night of dinner, music, a class art auction and the live auction of the coveted day with Miss Roxie.
