Week of March 5, 2017
NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
- The Common Trust Speaker Series event, featuring Devorah Heitner, Ph.D., founder of Raising Digital Natives and author of Screenwise: Helping Kids Thrive (and Survive) in Their Digital World, is TOMORROW, March 6, at 6 p.m. We understand that raising kids in the Digital Age is a topic of interest for many, and Dr. Heitner’s talk is an opportunity to hear a realistic yet optimistic perspective on helping kids navigate reputation, friendships and exclusion in the age of texting and social media. Please plan to attend this informative presentation.
- The first lunch and learn session about navigating parenting in the Digital Age is THIS Wednesday, March 8. Dr. Dave Verhaagen of Southeast Psych will lead a two-part series, A Parent’s Guide to Technology and Social Media, to take a deeper dive into this important topic. The second session is scheduled for Tuesday, March 14. Both sessions will be held from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. A complimentary light lunch will be served. Please RSVP to Kate Sullivan, sullivank@oakhillschool.org, if you plan to attend.
- We will announce fifth- and sixth-grade honor and merit roll recipients tomorrow, March 6, at Flag Raising.
- The sixth annual Common Trust Cup Golf Tournament will be held on April 24, 2017, at the Golf Club of Tennessee. All OHS parents, grandparents, alumni and friends are invited to play, either through forming a team or playing as an individual. All funds raised go directly to the Common Trust Speaker Series, which has brought in premier speakers on education and child rearing to Oak Hill School during the last several years. For more information, please contact John Boyer at BoyerJ@oakhillschool.org.
- In partnership with Flik, a team of sixth graders are set to compete in the upcoming CTK Competition, a cooking competition between students from OHS and teams from Brentwood Academy, CPA and Harding Academy. The competition is modeled after the Food Network’s hit TV show Cutthroat Kitchen. To prepare for the competition, the OHS team has taken part in after-school cooking classes led by our chef manager and sous-chef. The competition will be held on Wednesday, March 15, at 6 p.m., at Brentwood Academy. We invite you to attend the competition and support our OHS Culinary Kiddos!
- Save the Date! The 2017 Spring Fling will be held on Friday, April 21, at Famous Saloon on 2nd Avenue. Come and hang with other Oak Hill parents at this brand new venue in the heart of downtown. Be on the lookout for an Evite to arrive in your inbox soon.
