Weekly Ticker - November 12, 2017

Week of November 12, 2017

NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • The OHS Common Trust Speaker Series with Dr. Wendy Mogel, author of the New York Times bestseller The Blessing of a Skinned Knee, is this Tuesday, November 14, at 6 p.m., in the Enrichment Center. During the event, Dr. Mogel will discuss how to better communicate with your child across the expanse of childhood and adolescence. We hope you will join us for this informative night. The event is FREE and open to the public.

  • Our special Thanksgiving lunches are this week! The lunch ticket is $6 per person, including parents, grandparents, siblings and other guests. Lunch tickets will be billed to your account following the event. The date and time of your child’s Thanksgiving lunch is listed in the calendar below and the sidebar to the right. Please allow extra time for the collateral exchange process.

  • Please send in your food items for our Thanksgiving baskets on Friday, November 17. If you have not already done so, please go to your classroom SignUp Genius to sign up for basket items that are still needed.

  • A limited number of tickets are still available for the Oak Hill School Musical Theatre Workshop production of Disney’s Cinderella KIDS. Performances will be held in the Enrichment Center on Friday, November 17, at 6 p.m., and Saturday, November 18, at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10. Click HERE to purchase tickets.

  • It’s time for Bibbidi Bobbidi Blue! This Thursday, November 16, students are encouraged to wear their blue Round-Up T-shirt or blue uniform shirt with dress code bottoms to support the cast of Cinderella KIDS. The cast will sing for the school during Flag Raising.

  • Volunteers are still needed to deliver a Thanksgiving basket to the home of a shut-in with the FiftyForward Meals on Wheels program following the Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday, November 21. These baskets will be prepared by the students and placed on the altar during the service. This is one way OHS students celebrate the Thanksgiving season. If you wish to help us with the deliveries, please email Brenda Boon, boonb@oakhillschool.org. The basket and name of the recipient will be picked up at the altar after the service. A short visit to a shut-in can be a blessing to all.

  • A Prospective Parents Gathering will be held on Thursday, November 30, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., at the home of Mary and Paul Huddleston. Any current family who is considering OHS for a younger sibling is welcome to attend. Also, we need help from all of our families to serve as ambassadors of our school. If you know any families who may be interested in Oak Hill, please encourage them to also attend!

  • Registration is open for the second session of Explorations Mini-Classes. We are delighted to continue offering Taekwon-Do, Dance, and many other favorites. We are especially excited to add Ace Tennis Academy and LEGO Robotics to our offerings. All students registered for a Mini-Class may also attend Explorations on their assigned class dates at no additional charge. For specific details about each class and the link to register, please click HERE.

  • We hope you will join us for our cherished Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday, November 21, at 10 a.m., in the FPC sanctuary. Led by our sixth-grade students, the Thanksgiving Service helps reinforce Oak Hill School’s mission through words of gratitude and acts of service. Students should wear their dress uniforms on this day. The sanctuary will open at 9:15 a.m. for seating. Students will be dismissed for Thanksgiving break following the service at 11 a.m.

  • Explorations will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday Tuesday, November 21, through Friday, November 24. If you require care for your child following the Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday, November 21, please make other arrangements to accommodate for early dismissal.

  • In partnership with First Presbyterian Church, volunteers are needed on Monday, November 20, 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., to help pack food boxes for Rise Against Hunger. These meal packages are shipped around the world to support school feeding programs and crisis release efforts. There is no limit on the number of volunteers. Volunteers are also needed at 2 p.m. to join the set up team—this is a great opportunity for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and school teams! To sign up, please click HERE.

  • You are invited to attend the inaugural Christmas Tree Lighting and Pancake Supper at First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, December 6. The pancake supper will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the tree lighting at 6:30 p.m. Registration for the pancake supper is needed. For more details and the link to register, please click HERE

The November virtue is JOY. Our verse this week is from Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
