Weekly Ticker - November 5, 2017
Week of November 5, 2017
NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Tickets for the Oak Hill School Musical Theatre Workshop production of Disney’s Cinderella KIDS are now on sale! Performances will be held in the Enrichment Center on Friday, November 17, at 6 p.m., and Saturday, November 18, at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10. Click HERE to purchase tickets.
- Beginning this Wednesday, November 8, through the remainder of the week, early morning care will be held in the Dining Hall, as new curtains will be installed in the gym.
- This Friday, November 10, we will celebrate Veteran’s Day at Flag Raising with a special devotion to recognize our veterans. We would be honored for any family members of OHS students who are veterans to join us at Flag Raising in uniform, if possible. Any parents, grandparents or other family members who are veterans should meet Mrs. Pearson at the flag pole at 7:55 a.m. on November 10.
- Each year, every family is asked to donate food items to be included in our Thanksgiving baskets that are provided for the FiftyForward Meals on Wheels program. FiftyForward requested a change to some of the food items that are typically included. To see an example of the new food items, click HERE. Please go to your classroom SignUp Genius forms that you received at the beginning of the year to note the changes and sign up to donate items. Please send the items with your child on Friday, November 17. If you have questions, please contact the room mom for your child’s class.
- We need your help! Twenty-eight parent volunteers are needed to deliver a Thanksgiving basket to the home of a shut-in with the FiftyForward Meals on Wheels program following the Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday, November 21. These baskets will be prepared by the students and placed on the altar during the service. This is one way OHS students celebrate the Thanksgiving season. If you wish to help us with the deliveries, please email Brenda Boon, boonb@oakhillschool.org. The basket and name of the recipient will be picked up at the altar after the service. A short visit to a shut-in can be a blessing to all.
- A Prospective Parents Gathering will be held on Thursday, November 30, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., at the home of Mary and Paul Huddleston. Any current family who is considering OHS for a younger sibling is welcome to attend. Also, we need help from all of our families to serve as ambassadors of our school. If you know any families who may be interested in Oak Hill, please encourage them to also attend!
- Don’t forget to register for free childcare so you can attend the Common Trust Speaker Series on Tuesday, November 14, at 6 p.m., featuring Dr. Wendy Mogel. Dr. Mogel is a clinical psychologist, public speaker and New York Times best-selling author of The Blessing of a Skinned Knee and The Blessing of a B Minus. During the event, she will weigh in on the protection and promotion of self-reliance, resilience, accountability and exuberance in children. The event is FREE and open to the public. The deadline to register for childcare is this Tuesday, November 7. To register for childcare, click HERE.
- Sign-ups for 6th grade basketball tryouts is now available. A mandatory two-day tryout for sixth-grade girls will be held on Monday, November 27, and Wednesday, November 29. Sixth-grade boys will tryout on Tuesday, November 28, and Thursday, November 30. The time of tryouts is 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., on all days. For more details and to sign up for tryouts, click HERE.
- It’s also time to sign up for basketball cheerleading. Basketball cheerleading is open to any sixth-grade girl interested in participating. To sign up, please click HERE.
- In partnership with First Presbyterian Church, volunteers are needed on Monday, November 20, 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., to help pack food boxes for Rise Against Hunger. These meal packages are shipped around the world to support school feeding programs and crisis release efforts. There is no limit on the number of volunteers. Volunteers are also needed at 2 p.m. to join the set up team—this is a great opportunity for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and school teams! To sign up, please click HERE.
The November virtue is JOY. Our verse this week is from Nehemiah 8:10, “This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
