Weekly Ticker - October 22, 2017

Week of October 22, 2017

  • The Admissions Open House for PreK and Kindergarten is this Wednesday, October 25, at 11:30 a.m. Any current family who is considering OHS for a younger sibling is welcome to attend. Please encourage families you know who may be interested in Oak Hill to also attend. A light lunch will be served. For more information, contact Todd Counter, countert@oakhillschool.org, or Donna Stewart, stewartd@oakhillschool.org.

  • Make-up pictures for PreK - 5th grade are scheduled this Tuesday, October 24. Make-up pictures will only be taken if your child was absent on picture day or if you have a special circumstance that requires a retake. Please contact Krinda Hie at hiek@oakhillschool.org if you need to schedule a make-up picture.

  • Please note that the small parking lot near the dining hall dumpster is the designated morning unloading zone for our school buses. We kindly ask that you do not drive through or drop off from this lot between 7:40 a.m. and 8:15 a.m.

  • The Service Learning Board is collecting peanut butter, canned meat (chicken or tuna), canned vegetables, canned fruit, pasta and cereal to support those in our Nashville community struggling with hunger. Now through Monday, October 30, bring in any of the suggested items to help those in need. Collection bins will be located in the Rotunda. Open your pantry door and grab just one can to make a difference. Together, we CAN solve hunger!

  • Tickets are still available for the Diary of a Wimpy Kid author event on Monday, November 13. Tickets are available in 30-minute time slots, and each ticket admist two people to the event at the designated time. To purchase tickets, click HERE.

  • Dads, by now you should have received an invite to the Dads’ Breakfast to be held on Friday, November 3. Our speaker for the morning will be former UT athletic director, Mike Hamilton. Mike has since joined Show Hope, an organization whose mission is to care for orphans by engaging the church and reducing barriers to adoption, as the executive director. A man of deep faith, Mike has extensive experience in leadership and development, serving 26 years in intercollegiate athletics at Clemson University, Wake Forest University, and the University of Tennessee. He served at the University of Tennessee for nearly 20 years, eight as athletic director. Mike also served on the board for Show Hope, as well as other local, regional and national nonprofits.

  • Service learning is a deliberate process through which students can develop skills, knowledge, and civic awareness while making meaningful contributions to their communities. The Service Learning Board, grade 3-6 representatives, encourages involvement from the student body to put service into action. Please share your ideas as we remember to whom much is given, much will be required. Click HERE to review the process to propose a service project to the Service Learning Board.
  • Mark your calendars to attend the Common Trust Speaker Series on Tuesday, November 14, at 6 p.m., featuring Dr. Wendy Mogel. Dr. Mogel is a clinical psychologist, public speaker and New York Times best-selling author of The Blessing of a Skinned Knee and The Blessing of a B Minus. During the event, she will weigh in on the protection and promotion of self-reliance, resilience, accountability and exuberance in children. The event is FREE and open to the public.
