Weekly Ticker - October 29, 2017

Week of October 29, 2017

  • Beginning tomorrow, guest riders will be allowed to ride the bus if riding with another student who is registered for bus transportation. The cost for a guest rider is $5 per ride. The number of guest riders each day is based on seat availability and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Reservations for guest riders must be made in advance. To reserve a guest rider spot for your child, please email Missy Goodman at buses@oakhillschool.org by 2 p.m. each day.

  • The Dads’ Breakfast is this Friday, November 3, 7 a.m. - 8 a.m. Come and enjoy a hearty breakfast and hear our guest speaker, former UT athletic director Mike Hamilton. Mike has since joined Show Hope, an organization whose mission is to care for orphans by engaging the church and reducing barriers to adoption, as the executive director. Early morning care will open at 7 a.m. on this day to accommodate the dads attending the breakfast. Hope to see you there!

  • The Service Learning Board is collecting extra Halloween candy to send SWEET support for deployed troops as part of Operation Gratitude Halloween Candy GIVE-Back. The mission of Operation Gratitude is to lift the spirits and meet the evolving needs of the military and first responder communities. Drop off candy in the Rotunda now through Thursday, November 2.

  • First through sixth-grade students are invited to wear a Halloween theme shirt to school on Tuesday, October 31. The Halloween shirt is optional and must be worn with dress code bottoms. Kindergarten students should wear their jack-o-lantern T-shirts with jeans. PreK students may wear a costume to school on this day. Please send a uniform or a Halloween shirt for a change of clothes. Costumes are not permitted for any other grade.

  • As a reminder, the small parking lot near the dining hall dumpster is the designated morning unloading zone for our school buses. We kindly ask that you do not drive through or drop off from this lot between 7:40 a.m. and 8:15 a.m.

  • Tomorrow is the last day to donate to the Service Learning Board’s food drive. The SLB is collecting peanut butter, canned meat (chicken or tuna), canned vegetables, canned fruit, pasta and cereal to support those in our Nashville community struggling with hunger.  Collection bins are located in the Rotunda.

  • A limited number of tickets are still available for the Diary of a Wimpy Kid author event on Monday, November 13. Tickets are available in 30-minute time slots, and each ticket admits two people to the event at the designated time. To purchase tickets, click HERE.

  • A Prospective Parents Social will be held on Thursday, November 9, 6:30 p.m., at the home of Mary and Paul Huddleston. Any current family who is considering OHS for a younger sibling is welcome to attend. Also, we need help from all of our families to serve as ambassadors of our school. If you know any families who may be interested in Oak Hill, please encourage them to also attend!

  • Don’t forget to register for FREE childcare so you can attend the Common Trust Speaker Series on Tuesday, November 14, at 6 p.m., featuring Dr. Wendy Mogel. Dr. Mogel is a clinical psychologist, public speaker and New York Times best-selling author of The Blessing of a Skinned Knee and The Blessing of a B Minus. During the event, she will weigh in on the protection and promotion of self-reliance, resilience, accountability and exuberance in children. The event is FREE and open to the public. Please help us spread the word! To register for childcare, click HERE.
