NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Mark your calendars to attend the Common Trust Speaker Series on Tuesday, November 29, at 6 p.m., featuring Jessica Lahey. Lahey is the author of the New York Times bestseller The Gift of Failure. During this event, she will break down the current research on autonomy-supportive parenting and teaching, praise and failure, while offering practical advice about how parents can give children the support and encouragement they need in order to stay motivated and succeed. The event is FREE and open to the public. Child care also will be available at no cost! To register, click HERE.
- Students are invited to wear a Halloween theme shirt to school tomorrow, October 31. The Halloween shirt is optional and must be worn with dress code bottoms. PreK students may wear a costume to school on this day. Please send a uniform or a Halloween shirt for a change of clothes. Costumes are not permitted for any other grade.
- The Dads’ Breakfast is this Friday, November 4, 7 a.m. - 8 a.m. Early morning care will open at 7 a.m. on this day to accommodate the dads attending the breakfast. Hope to see you there!
- Tickets for the 2016 OHS Musical Theatre Workshop production of Disney’s Aristocats KIDS are now on sale! Performances are Friday, November 18, at 6 p.m., and Saturday, November 19, at 1 p.m., in the Enrichment Center. Please click HERE to purchase tickets. For questions regarding ticket sales, please contact Barbara Sanders, sandersb@oakhillschool.org.
- Please donate some of your Halloween candy for the Service Learning Board project supporting Operation Gratitude, beginning Tuesday, November 1, through Thursday, November 3. Unopened Halloween candy will be sent in care packages to the U.S. military. As part of Operation Gratitude, local dentists will buy back candy for $1 per pound and then send the goodies to troops overseas. All money raised will be donated. Candy collection boxes will be located in the Rotunda. The goal is to collect 250 pounds of candy.
- Parents, as you near campus for arrival and dismissal each day, please be courteous of our surrounding residential neighborhood. Be mindful of the posted speed limits and slow down. In the afternoons, traffic often backs up on both Oak Valley Lane and Churchwood Drive near North Porch—please do not block residents’ driveways. As a friendly reminder, we also ask that you do not talk on your cell phone while dismissal is in progress.
- First Presbyterian Church will host a blood drive to support the American Red Cross on Sunday, November 6, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., in the Enrichment Center. Click HERE for more information and to register.
- You should have received an email with a link from Tim Jones Photography to view a digital proof of your child’s school pictures. Follow the instructions in the email if you would like to order pictures. A printed proof will not be provided. Please note, if you are placing orders for more than one child, be sure to enter the promo code SHIP on the second or any subsequent orders to avoid being charged multiple times for shipping. Makeup Picture Day for PreK - 5th grade is Wednesday, November 9. Makeup pictures will only be taken if your child was absent on picture day or if you have a special circumstance that requires a retake.
- Each winter, First Presbyterian Church houses 14 men every Wednesday night on the church campus. In partnership with Room In The Inn, FPC helps provide transportation, food, laundry services and a warm place to sleep for the night.
