Weekly Ticker - September 17, 2017

Week of September 17, 2017

  • Sixth-grade pictures are this Tuesday, September 19. Proper attire for pictures is dress uniform for boys and Sunday dress for girls. Strapless, halter or spaghetti-strap dresses are not permitted. Please send a change of standard uniform clothes for your child to wear after pictures.

  • The consultants for our head of school search, Burke Zalosh and Marguerite Lloyd, will be on campus tomorrow, September 18, from 5:30 p.m. - 6 p.m., and Tuesday, September 19, from 8:15 a.m. - 8:45 a.m., and want to hear from you. If you would like to offer input, please come to either meeting. The meeting on Monday will be held in the FPC Gathering Place, and the meeting on Tuesday will be held in the board room.

  • In partnership with First Presbyterian Church, we are still collecting toiletry items for Hurricane Harvey victims. Needed items include: hand towels (approximately 16”x28”, no fingertip or bath towels), washcloths, wide-tooth combs, nail clippers, bars of soap (bath size in wrapper), toothbrushes in original packaging and Band-Aids® or other adhesive bandage strips in 3/4”x3” size. These items will be assembled in hygiene kits for those in need. Look for collection bins in the Rotunda to drop-off the donated items.

  • A lightweight, dress-code approved pullover is now available! To view this new item, click HERE. The pullover can be purchased at Educational Outfitters or in the Panther Den. The price is the same at either location. This pullover is the ONLY dress-code approved item available in the Panther Den. As a reminder, the Panther Den is open every Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 8 a.m., or stop by and see Kate Sullivan any time that is convenient for you.

  • Our Constitutional Convention representatives will announce this year’s school norms during Flag Raising this Thursday, September 21.

  • Please note, the drive coming from Oak Valley Lane will be closing this Thursday for crews to repair the drainage damage that resulted from our recent heavy rain. It is estimated that the repair work will take two weeks to complete. We will communicate via email with specific details, including a temporary change to the North Porch dismissal route, later this week.

  • Award-winning author Adam Lehrhaupt will visit with kindergarten through second-grade students this Thursday, September 21. He will share his newest picture book, This Is A Good Story, a book that takes apart the elements of a story—hero, heroine, setting and conflict—then asks the reader to put the story back together again. To purchase a copy of This Is A Good Story, or any of Adam’s other books to be signed by the author during his visit, please fill out the order form found HERE and return it to your child’s teacher with payment by Tuesday, September 19. Orders received after the deadline will be filled according to stock availability.

  • It’s time to sign up for Library Legends! This special tradition at OHS provides and promotes new additions to the Roxie Cawood Gibson Library, while giving students an opportunity to become involved with the library program. Students who elect to participate may select a book from a variety of new library books to present at Flag Raising. Upper School students have the option of presenting via digital video. A book plate with your child’s name will be placed inside the chosen book. The cost to participate is $20. To sign up, complete the online order form located under the Oakworthy menu on our website, or click HERE.

  • Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Round Up, set for Friday, September 29, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. If you haven’t already, please sign up for a volunteer shift on your class Sign Up Genius for each of your children. This night wouldn’t be possible without the help of our parent volunteers. Moms and Dads, don’t forget to bring your new or used white sheets to the Rotunda.

  • As a reminder, students are allowed to wear their Round Up/theme T-shirts on Fridays leading up to the annual event. T-shirts may be worn with dress code bottoms.

  • It’s almost BoxTops for Education collection time! OHS can earn $1,000 or more by collecting BoxTops found on products that are used every day, such as cereal, trash bags, butter, snacks and more. For a complete list of products where BoxTops can be found, please click HERE. Our first collection will be in October, so start clipping BoxTops now. If you have questions, please contact Catherine Beemer, cathbeemer@comcast.net.
