NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Sixth-grade pictures are this Tuesday, September 20. Proper attire for pictures is dress uniform for boys and Sunday dress for girls. Strapless, halter or spaghetti-strap dresses are not permitted. Please send a change of standard uniform clothes for your child to wear after pictures.
- Are you a current family considering OHS for a younger sibling? Please take time to apply now by clicking HERE. This applies to children who are currently enrolled in preschool programs across town. For those in the OHS PreK program, call Donna Stewart in the admissions office, (615) 298-9596.
- Join us this Tuesday, September 20, 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., for a round table discussion and interactive demonstrations of the apps your kids are using every day. Hosted by the Media and Technology Committee of the OHS Board of Trustees, this event will feature detailed overviews of the technologies that Upper School children may be exposed to, such as SnapChat, Instagram, Youtube and more. Come ask questions, join the discussion and, as a community of parents, get a better handle on the tech that is such a large part of children’s lives. Please note, the location of this event has been moved to the library.
- Don’t forget to sign up for Library Legends! This special tradition at OHS provides and promotes new additions to the Roxie Cawood Gibson Library, while giving students an opportunity to become involved with the library program. Students who elect to participate may select a book from a variety of new library books to present at Flag Raising. Upper School students have the option of presenting via digital video. A book plate with your child’s name will be placed inside the chosen book. The cost to participate is $20. To sign up, complete the online order form located under the Oakworthy menu on our website, or click HERE.
- As a reminder, students are allowed to wear their Round Up T-shirts on Fridays leading up to the annual event, scheduled for Friday, October 21. Round Up T-shirts may be worn with jeans or dress code bottoms.
- Parents, if you plan to pick up your child early from school, please remember to email your child’s teacher, as well as attendance@oakhillschool.org and Beth Gilliland at gillilandb@oakhillschool.org to notify the main office. This helps ensure the office staff has your child ready to leave when you arrive.
- It’s almost BoxTops for Education collection time! Did you know that OHS can earn $1,000 or more by collecting BoxTops found on products that are used every day, such as cereal, trash bags, butter, snacks and more? So, don’t recycle those boxes until you clip the BoxTop. Collection will be October 3-7. For a complete list of products where BoxTops can be found, please click HERE. If you have questions, please contact Catherine Beemer, cathbeemer@comcast.net.
- September is Hunger Action Month. Each September, people across America unite to take action against hunger, one of our nation’s most pressing issues. Beginning this Thursday, September 22, through Friday, October 7, please bring two or more items from your own pantry to the Second Harvest Collection boxes, which will be located in the Rotunda and in each wing of the school. Please talk to your child about why people are hungry. For more information, visit the Second Harvest website by clicking HERE.
