Summer Library Program and Reading Lists

Great readers fill their lives with a variety of literature-based activities, including reading, writing and literary events. We invite you to join us in the Roxie C. Gibson Library at Oak Hill School this summer for fun-filled programs and events designed to continue developing students’ love for reading.

Summer Library Hours

Every Wednesday, June 13 - August 8
9 a.m. - 3 p.m. 

Every week, the library will offer activities related to a different theme, beginning Wednesday, June 13. Families may have up to 10 books checked out at a time and may keep the books for three weeks. Children must be accompanied by an adult during any library visit.

June 13
Cardio Kids “Let’s Get Fit,” presented by My Gym Brentwood

10 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Wildlife on Wheels, presented by the Nashville Zoo
2 p.m.
Would you like to see a sloth in the library? Us, too! Come to the library and check out some interesting animals from the Nashville Zoo.
 
June 20
“Snorts, Slithers and SCREECH!” presented by the Natural History Education Company of the Midsouth

10 a.m.
This exciting program allows children the opportunity to compare a variety of animals, including reptiles, birds, mammals and even insects. Wildlife exhibits include a yellow-naped green Amazon parrot, baby raccoon, South American tegu and an African hedgehog.

June 27
Singing with Carly Tefft

10 a.m.
Join OHS’s Explorations teacher, Carly Tefft, for a morning of singing and fun.

July 4

Nashville Puppet Truck

“Tomás and the Library Lady”
2 p.m.
Tomás is a son of migrant workers. Every summer he and his family follow the crops north from Texas to Iowa, spending long, arduous days in the fields. At night, they gather around to hear Grandfather’s wonderful stories. But before long, Tomás knows all the stories by heart. “There are more stories in the library,” Papa Grande tells him. The very next day, Tomás meets the library lady and a whole new world opens up for him.

Join us to hear from and meet Jonathan Miller, author of The Adventures of Sammy the Wonder Dachshund.

July 25
Cinderella KIDS!

10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Come and watch the video showing of OHS’s Musical Theatre Workshop production of Cinderella KIDS!
