2018 Head of School Back-to-School Message

Welcome to the 2018-19 school year! In a few short weeks, we will begin another wonderful school year at Oak Hill. I hope that the summer was full of fun and rest with your family and, of course, some quality time with a good book or two.

Campus has been a bit quiet after Under the Oaks wrapped up a couple of weeks ago, but recently, teachers have begun to trickle back to the classrooms to plan and prepare for the students to arrive. As I have greeted the teachers as they return, I’m reminded of the St. Benedict’s wisdom when he said, “Every day, we begin again.” Each day is a new beginning, and each school year is a fresh start. I hope that the newness of the year is exciting for you and your children. There is much to learn and to do this year. Let’s get started!

This year’s theme is “Draw the Circle Wide”, based on Romans 15:7. The theme will be woven into many classroom and school-wide activities, and it is our hope and prayer that this metaphor will be a common refrain for our school community this year. The theme highlights the importance of expanding our relationships beyond our current circle, looking beyond ourselves to offer the hand of friendship. Let’s consider making a new friend, reaching out to a family we do not know very well and celebrate the community of Oak Hill. Romans 15:7 reminds us that Jesus calls us to friendship, relationship and acceptance, not solely for ourselves but for His glory. What a simple and powerful way to serve the Lord. To all of our new families, welcome to the Oak Hill family! We are strengthened by you and your children, and we look forward to getting to know you this year.

We will see you at First Day Eve on Sunday, August 19, and on the first day of school, August 20.

With gratitude,
