Coronavirus (COVID-19) Preparation Update
With news of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Tennessee, I want to reaffirm our efforts to closely monitor this rapidly evolving public health situation and safeguard the health and well-being of our school community. The local occurrence and anticipated growth in the number of cases in our region are consistent with the expected progression of this virus.
We maintain a cautious but sensible approach in our efforts to prepare and respond to COVID-19 concerns. We are relying on information and will adhere to the guidelines and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as state and local health officials. Currently, public health experts are not recommending proactive school cancelations or closures.
We are confident in our efforts to clean all areas and high-touch surfaces throughout the school and will continue to perform a precautionary disinfectant cleaning each day. Most importantly, we remind everyone in our school community to engage in practices that promote good health, including:
- Frequent hand washing with soap and water
- Avoid close contact with anyone with flu-like symptoms
- Keep your child at home if he or she shows any sign of illness

Please know that we are in close contact with colleagues at other local schools. While some schools have made the decision to cancel extra-curricular activities and large group gatherings, other schools are moving forward with previously scheduled events and activities. At this time, the events and activities scheduled at Oak Hill School will continue as planned.
School administration, along with the Board of Trustees, are engaged in ongoing preparations in the event it becomes necessary to close school for a period of time. Teaching teams are currently making plans for remote learning. The ever-changing nature of the COVID-19 situation presents a level of uncertainty that requires flexibility in planning scenarios. While it is impossible to recreate the learning environment of Oak Hill School from a distance, we are considering all possibilities to maintain the same level of learning and growth for all students.
Above all, the safety and well-being of our students and school community is our highest priority. We will continue to provide updates as more information is available and any new decisions are made. Thank you for your partnership and understanding as we move forward.
