Over the last few months, we have been hard at work developing a comprehensive reopening plan that maintains our high academic standards, brings our community back together and reinforces our mission of lifelong learning and service. All of this is underscored with the health and safety of our school community as our top priority.
Since we first published our fall reopening scenarios in early July, the dialogue around the reopening of schools has increased. We have been carefully tracking local and regional metrics of COVID-19 cases and have engaged in frequent conversations with local peer schools about best practice health and safety measures for school campuses. The decisions about our plan to reopen school, as well as the policies and procedures that have been put in place, have been made given the best information at hand. There is a constant flow of new research and data, leading to frequently changing guidance and protocols. The information in our reopening plan is subject to modifications as new guidelines become available, and we will continue to monitor information from public health authorities and make adjustments accordingly.
We ask that you carefully read the attached plan, which outlines expectations and provides detailed information about health and safety measures, new protocols, academics and school programming as well as answers to many frequently asked questions. As part of the review process, please consider if your child will return to school on campus in August or if your child will begin the school year remote learning from home. We will send a follow-up email on Monday, August 3, asking you to submit your choice of learning model to begin the school year. All families are urged to respond so that we can plan effectively for the start of school.
While much of our planning has been focused on our return to on-campus learning, the recent surge in local COVID-19 cases requires us to also prepare for periods of remote learning for all students. Please make family preparations now to support learning from home in the event that local or state guidelines do not allow for schools to be open.
Whether on campus or at home, everyone plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy school environment. A successful reopening and our ability to remain on campus for the entire year is dependent on all members of our school community doing their part to minimize the risk of exposure. We need families to adhere to a plan at home that promotes personal health and supports the good health of others. Please wear a mask, wash hands frequently and continue to practice safe social distancing by limiting close contact interactions and avoiding large groups, particularly in the two weeks leading up to the start of school. Isolated actions can affect the entire community. Your partnership in the shared effort to keep our students and teachers healthy and safe is essential.
Without a doubt, we all want to be back together on campus for another year of learning and growth. We will continue to communicate any new back-to-school details or changes as the final weeks of summer approach. We look forward to seeing you on August 20th. Thank you for your ongoing support.
